چکیده

The formalism of conformal-solution theory (CST) has been extended to pure and mixed polar fluids with consideration of dipolar, quadrupolar and induced dipolar forces. The total potential energy is reduced to a form similar to that for neutral molecules by statistical averaging over orientations. The temperature dependence,s of the conformal parameters f, and h,, are derived and it is found that the temperature variations are in opposite directions. These conformal parameters are related to Leland’s shape factors f&, and &,,, for which similar trends in temperature variations are observed. Following the theory of Byers-Brown for neutral molecular fluid mixtures, with the random-mixing approximation, an expression is derived for the excess Gibbs free energy of a binary polar mixture, using a generalized mixing-rule approximation.

Determination of the Effective Parameters for Perforated Functionally Graded Plates with Polygonal Cutout by Analytical Solution

This paper investigates the moments and stress resultants from infinite FG laminates with different polygonal cutouts subject to uniaxial tensile load. The analytical solution used for the calculation of stress resultants and moments is the basis of the complex-variable method and conformal mapping function. The impact of various factors, namely cutout orientation angle, cutout aspect ratio as ...

Analysis of Euler-Bernoulli nanobeams: A mechanical-based solution

The accuracy and efficiency of the elements proposed by finite element method (FEM) considerably depend on the interpolating functions namely shape functions used to formulate the displacement field within the element. In the present study, novel functions, namely basic displacements functions (BDFs), are introduced and exploited for structural analysis of nanobeams using finite element method ...

An Improved ISM Equation of State for Polar Fluids

We developed an equation of state (EOS) by Ihm, Song, and Mason (ISM) for polar fluids. The model consists of four parameters, namely, the second virial coefficient, an effective van der Waals co-volume, a scaling factor, and the reduced dipole moment. The second virial coefficient is calculated from a correlation that uses the heat of vaporization, and the liquid density at the normal boiling ...

Optimization of Conformal Mapping Functions used in Developing Closed-Form Solutions for Underground Structures with Conventional cross Sections

Elastic solutions applicable to single underground openings usually suffer from geometry related simplification. Most tunnel shapes possess two axes of symmetry while a wide range of geometries used in tunneling practice involve only one symmetry axis. D-shape or horse-shoe shape tunnels and others with arched roof and floor are examples of the later category (one symmetry axis). In the present...

Extended corresponding states for pure polar and non-polar fluids: an improved method for component shape factor prediction

In the past, the extended corresponding states approach to fluid property prediction has been restricted to Ž . non-polar fluids e.g., hydrocarbons and some common non-polar inorganics due to the lack of an accurate way to predict the required shape factors. In this work, a new predictive method to obtain shape factors for the Ž . extended corresponding states theory ECST has been developed whi...
